Alpha Protocol

I said I’d be returning… well at least trying to keep this blog a little more up to date. Life’s been busy but you’re not here to listen to what goes on in the life of  yet another random internet blogger guy who reviews video games as if his opinion of them is somehow important. You’re here to read what the hell I have to say about whatever it is I feel like giving an opinion on and this time it’s an opinion not shared by most. Oooh look at me, I’m a contrarian, always going against the popular opinion!

The Gaming Industry and its Contempt for Itself (a Scape rant)

As much as I love the gaming industry and the wonderful stories it tells us I can’t help but feel that for the most part the industry kind of hates itself. There’s this contempt it has for itself, not just the journalists, but the fans, developers and publishers as well. For as much as gaming has grown and become a part of today’s culture and for as much as the lovers and workers of the medium hate being derided by others who hail from more respected mediums, the people of the industry seem to enjoy joining in their voice and treating games as immature little products that quite haven’t yet reached the levels of integrity that film and literature have.

Alien: Resurrection

Continuing from “Aliens: Colonial Marines” I thought I would do a little piece on the very underrated PS1 classic “Alien Resurrection”. In my eyes “Alien Resurrection” is the definitive “Alien” game. Everything that no other “Alien” based game has ever and possibly will never be (edit: "Alien: Isolation" changed this). It did everything right, managed to make the “Alien” scary, –something no game before or after has effectively done- it created a tense and terrifying atmosphere and the sound design was pitch perfect. Argonaut’s decision to use absolutely no music and all ambient sound effects was brilliant, it set a mood and proves that you don’t need loud music stings to make your audience scared, palpable atmosphere will do that just fine.

Resident Evil 6

I’ve been putting this review off for a while, I’m not exactly sure why and now I’m showing up so late to the party that everyone’s already gone home, had enough time to recuperate and are now at another party. But I really don’t give a damn, I have to write this, not so much to get my opinion out, lord knows it’s not much different than a lot of others. Jim Sterling’s review (seen here: http://www.destructoid.com/review-resident-evil-6-235326.phtml) pretty much sums up majority of my complaints. I have to write this because I need to get it off my chest, little discussions where I vent my frustrations with this game just aren’t cutting it, I gotta rip it another asshole, or at least open the wound Mr. Sterling already gave it a little wider than it already is. Never have I been more disappointed in anything. (at least until I watched “Silent Hill: Revelation”) When I went into this game I was expecting a fun old time, but what I got was nothing but pain and frustration.
